Type Locality and Naming

Along the village of Bogustan, Prishchekent district. F. P. Korsakov, 1965 (240, p.88). Forms the upper part of the Chirchik Gr (Middle-Upper Miocene). The term is used in a limited sense.

Synonym: Bogustanskaya Suite, Богуcтанская св.


Lithology and Thickness

Red-brown clays, siltstone (aleurolites), sandstones, and conglomerates. Thickness up to 500m.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

Lies conformably on the Chatkal Fm

Upper contact

Locally conformably or with erosion overlies the Beldersay Fm.

Regional extent

Prishchekent district. According to B.I. Pinhasov, the Bogustan Fm is a constituent part of the Upper Pliocene-Pleistocene brown-colored molasse formation of the Upper Tien Shan series (Upper TienShan Gr) and is correlated with the middle part of the Late Pliocene Gidzhal Fm.
